Frequently Asked Questions
At Embarras Quilting, our mission is to transform each quilt top into a beautifully crafted piece. We strive to provide high-quality, edge-to-edge quilting services that enhance the aesthetics of your quilts.
We require that backing be four (4”) inches larger on all sides. Add 4 inches to each side of the top measurements or a total of 8 inches to the top width and length. For example if your quilt top is 70” X 80” please ensure that your backing is at least 78” X 88”. If your backing is NOT the right size, we may be able to make it work but cannot guarantee, or it may not be quilt able at all. If your quilt uses Minky, see the next FAQ.
We love how soft and cuddly Minky and Cuddle backs are! To use them, we need 5 inches of extra fabric on all sides (10 inches total for width and length).
Minky, Cuddle, and Blizzard Fleece are all soft, cozy fabrics, but they’re actually quite different in feel, structure, and best uses. Minky and Cuddle fabrics can be used for luxury blankets, quilt backs, and plushies however Blizzard fleece is best used in no-sew crafts. If you are unsure of the backing product you have, please contact us prior to ordering or shipping.

Yes, you can drop off your quilt in person by appointment. Please place your order on our website before coming to drop it off so we can match it up.
Yes, Hobbs 80/20 batting, thread, and a fresh needle are included in the price of every quilt top we quilt. We prefer to keep it simple and include everything necessary to complete your project in the base price, avoiding extra add-on charges.
We use Hobbs 80/20 cotton and polyester batting, which is 80% natural cotton and 20% fine polyester. This batting is needle punched and lightly resin bonded for strength and durability. Close quilting gives a flat, low-loft look, while more space between stitches gives a higher loft. We also use Hobbs Heirloom® Premium Natural 100% Cotton Batting, a non-allergenic, natural cotton batting made from the finest, clean, natural (unbleached), long-staple, virgin cotton. For quilts with mainly white fabric, we use bleached versions to maintain the quilt's beauty.
While we don’t offer custom quilting, we have the utmost respect for the incredible artists who do! Our specialty is delivering beautiful edge-to-edge quilting that’s fast, affordable, and expertly done. We’re happy to cheer on custom quilters from afar and truly enjoy admiring their amazing craftsmanship.
Machine binding is available for $0.38 per linear inch, completed by yours truly who ensure a high-quality finish. We recommend providing your own fabric for binding to achieve the look you love, just send enough, and we’ll cut and piece it for you. If no binding fabric is provided, we will default to using the extra backing from your quilt. In cases where the backing isn’t suitable (such as minky) or there isn’t enough, we’ll select from our small fabric library and choose the best match. Please do not pre-cut binding strips, as our team prefers to cut them to our standard width. Additionally, we do not roll excess backing over to create binding and do not use satin fabric, due to its long-term durability and difficulty to work with.
The time to finish your quilt varies. For simple, edge-to-edge designs on a queen-size quilt, it takes about 2-4 hours. Custom-designed queen quilts can take 15-40 hours. It all depends on the quilt size, design complexity, and our quilting speed and experience.
Not usually. Free shipping is standard and if you get the quilt to us we will quilt it in less than 4 weeks from receipt, package it up nicely, and get it delivered (with insurance) right back to you. Our friends in Alaska and Hawaii do have a $15 shipping charge that I will request payment for towards the end of the projects completion. It is safe, simple, and fast. If you want quicker return shipping, we do offer a few faster options. What are you waiting for? Send that quilt in, we can’t wait to get started!
We are happy to answer any questions you might have! The easiest way to contact us is through our email. Just send it to K.cribelar@outlook.com and we will response as soon as possible.
